萧凡：夫子尝独立，鲤趋而过庭，夫子日：学诗乎？鲤对日：未也。夫子日：不学诗，无以言。鲤退而学诗，他日又独立，鲤趋而过庭，夫子日：学礼乎？鲤对日：未也。夫子日：不学礼，无以立。鲤退而学礼。愿大王以此为鉴。
陈牧：先生之言是也，寡人受教矣。

陈牧：寡人欲知，何为匡辅之意？先生教我。
萧凡：匡者，正也。辅者，弼也。不欺之谓忠，为善之谓良。夫国之匡辅，上佐一人，中总百官，下抚兆民，其任重矣。若非忠良，欲臻至化，未之有也。任使得人，天下自治，文武之政，布在方策，其人存则其政举，其人亡则其政息，此之谓也，得人则治，失人则乱。
陈牧：先生之言是也，寡人受教矣。

萧凡：臣以为，君人者，劳于求贤而逸于任事，即此义也。汉昭烈三顾茅庐而谒孔明，斯即劳也。一用孔明而王蜀中，斯即逸也。梁惠王与齐威王田于郊，惠王问曰：王亦有宝乎？威王曰：寡人以贤为宝。惠王惭而去之。圣人求贤以自辅，所宝惟贤，盖为国也。
陈牧：先生之言是也，寡人谨受教。
